An already rough winter – topped off by the biggest snowstorm of the season – has tested the dedicated individuals who work before, during, and after storms to provide vital services to Islanders.

“Working in such extreme environments can be stressful and dangerous,” said Janice Sherry, minister responsible for Public Safety. “I extend sincere gratitude to first responders and to Maritime Electric crews who answered the call of duty in the midst of the crippling blizzard, to medical personnel who worked diligently day and night, and to the media who kept Islanders informed.”

“In the worst of weather conditions, Highway Maintenance staff work 24-7 to make our roadways safe for Islanders,” Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Robert Vessey said. “Whether it’s clearing roads or accompanying emergency crews or utility workers, the work they do saves lives – and we thank them for it.”
