Spring Session to focus on making government services more responsive to the needs of Islanders

Premier's Office

The spring sitting of the Legislative Assembly will highlight progress being made to make government programs and services more responsive to the needs of Islanders while continuing to meet our budget targets, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“Government’s agenda for this sitting will be to follow our plan to make health care more accessible to patients, to place students at the centre of our education system, to give business more direct access to programs, and to protect our agricultural and environmentally sensitive lands,” said the Premier.

Approximately 20 pieces of legislation will be tabled including the Health Information Act and changes to the Election Act. Proposed changes to the Lands Protection Act will be accompanied by actions to implement the first phase of the Carver Report.

Government will table a motion, seconded by the Official Opposition, for debate on Province House as it continues to work with the federal government to protect this historic and national landmark.

“All proceedings of the House are open to the public,” said Government House Leader Sonny Gallant. “I encourage Islanders to participate in the debate, either by watching it on television or the Internet, or by providing input to your MLA.”

Visitors to the public gallery can follow the proceedings during regular sitting hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Full proceedings are broadcast live on the Internet at www.assembly.pe.ca and on Eastlink television.
