Over 1,000 students will visit the first edition of the Salon du livre de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard being held on June 5-7 at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside and many other students will also receive a French author at their school prior to the event, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minster Alan McIsaac.

“The Salon du livre is a French book expo that will feature a number of authors from Atlantic Canada and Quebec,” said Minister McIsaac. “This book fair will truly be a literary gathering for the whole family.”

French books will be available for sale during the Salon du livre at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside. Admission is free for students and $3 for adults.

Event Hours:

Thursday, June 5: 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Friday, June 6: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Saturday, June 7: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The official program of events is now available on the Salon du livre website. Highlights include:

• Cooking to overcome pain and chronic inflammation by Jacqueline Lagacé (Saturday from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

• What a parents can do to develop the love of reading in their children by Dominique Demers (Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.)

• Tribute to our young writers by MC June (Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

Several successful francophone authors will attend the Salon du livre and visit Island schools to share their experiences and writing tips with students. Visiting authors include Dominique Demers, Marie Laberge, MC June and more.

“Ensuring that francophone and French second language students reach high levels of literacy skills is strongly linked to student achievement,” said Minister McIsaac. “The Salon du livre will provide an opportunity for students, teachers, and the general public to access quality francophone literature and be inspired by their authors.”
