Statement from Premier Robert Ghiz on 70th Anniversary of D-Day

Premier's Office

"Today, 70 years after our brave soldiers descended on the shores of Normandy, I encourage Islanders to pause and reflect on the sacrifice thousands made on that historic day.

“Although it has been seven decades since D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, our honour and respect for these soldiers must never fade. We must ensure our country’s sacrifice is never forgotten and forever commemorated.

“We think of the soldiers who gave their lives, we think of the families whose loved ones did not return home, and we think of those who returned with haunting memories of their days at war.

“Today, we remind ourselves how truly fortunate we are to live in Canada – a nation crafted by the selfless acts of our heroic soldiers.”
