Meetings with Israel’s ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Rafael Barak, have identified new trade, investment and other opportunities, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“The visit provided an outstanding opportunity to further familiarize Ambassador Barak with the prospects and opportunities of strengthening relationships in a number of priority sectors, including agriculture, biosciences and aerospace,” said Premier Ghiz. “There were also discussions on the timing of a proposed Prince Edward Island trade mission to Israel in the early part of 2015.”

Ambassador Barak was in Prince Edward Island for a one-day visit on Thursday. Following a courtesy visit to Government House, he met with Premier Ghiz, Agriculture and Forestry Minister George Webster and officials at the University of Prince Edward Island. He also met with members of the province’s Jewish Community, toured Province House and sat down for a discussion with Gary MacDougall, managing editor of The Guardian.

Appointed Israeli ambassador to Canada in November of 2013, this was his first visit to Prince Edward Island. The visit follows that of Counsel General of Israel, His Excellence Joel Lion, in July of this year.

Israel is Canada’s fourth largest export market in the Middle East and North Africa.
