“The Information and Communications Technology industry provides an excellent opportunity for well-trained people who want to pursue careers away from major urban communities. I think this incubator will provide a place where entrepreneurs can launch innovative businesses and where ICT professionals can find opportunity,” said Minister Roach.
The Montague Business Development Centre will offer space for up to five startup-sized companies as well as one major tenant.
“The Community Welfare League of Montague is very proud to be part of the Montague Business Development Centre. The centre has assisted in revitalizing the downtown Montague area by renovating an existing property into a modern facility. The opening of an IT development centre will allow Kings County to be a viable location for attracting new and upcoming IT entrepreneurs,” said Scott Bell, president of the Community Welfare League.
Thinking Big Information Technology, a full service information technology company founded by Cardigan native Ron Myers, Iona’s Luke Rooney, and Chris Weeks of Charlottetown, has decided to open a second office in PEI. They have agreed to rent the larger space within the facility located on the second floor while smaller emerging businesses have begun renting incubator space on the first floor.
“We are really excited to be opening another office, and it is especially nice to be in the Montague Business Development Centre,” said Chris Weeks. “With both Luke and Ron having strong ties to the area it is a great fit for us. Aside from the homecoming for the guys, which is a nice bonus, we are here because we see a strategic growth opportunity for both Thinking Big as well as for the town of Montague.”
The project is being financed with a $309,000 loan from Finance PEI, a $239,000 non-repayable contribution from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and a $150,000 grant from Innovation PEl.
