Open House at Government House

Lieutenant Governor's Office

Their Honours, Lieutenant Governor H. Frank Lewis and Mrs. Dorothy Lewis gladly announce the annual Fanningbank Christmas Open House. The doors to Government House will be open for visitors on Monday, December 8 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge.

This year’s decorating of Government House is under the direction of Shelly Campbell, curator of the historic Bideford Parsonage Museum. There is a new arrangement of Christmas trees and new styling of the many traditional decorations and furnishings. The fireplaces will be lit to add to the warmth and atmosphere as visitors enjoy their walk through the main floor of the house.

Live music will be provided in the afternoon by the Canada Remembers Chorus under the direction of Darragh Mogan singing seasonal favorites. Evening music is provided by the Teachers in Harmony and Friends Choir under the direction of Nancy Thornton-Smyth.

Government House is 180 years old this year, and the character of the Lieutenant Governors’ official residence is much as it was in 1834.

Visitors are reminded that parking is limited in the area, especially in the afternoon. The main floor of Government House is accessible for people with limited mobility and non-powered wheelchairs.
