Lieutenant Governor's 2015 Levée

Lieutenant Governor's Office

Their Honours the Honourable H. Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island and Mrs. Dorothy Lewis are preparing to host their fourth New Year’s Day Levée. Again this year, Their Honours will have something for early visitors in addition to handshakes and good wishes for 2015. A limited quantity of 2014 commemorative Government House souvenir medallions will be given out while they last.

The levée will be at Government House, 1 Terry Fox Drive, the Lieutenant Governor’s residence, on January 1 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. As usual, light refreshments will be served with the help of staff and volunteers. Seasonal decorations will remain in place for those who missed the open house earlier this month.

The modern levée is a uniquely Canadian tradition and Prince Edward Island has a particularly strong tradition of hosting and attendance. His Honour emphasizes that his levée is open to everyone and he is particularly encouraging Prince Edward Island newcomers and those who have never visited Government House to take the opportunity to share in this local custom. Levée-goers have found it an excellent way to start the year, exchanging good wishes with family, friends and new acquaintances.

Their Honours also look forward to greeting others at various levées they will attend later in the day. Avid levée attendee Peter Rukavina has been compiling a list for the Charlottetown area for ten years. His 2015 list of more than 20 can be found at www.ruk.ca/levee-2015. Vehicle traffic onto Government House grounds is restricted during the levée. The main floor of Government House is accessible, and mobility impaired visitors may be driven to the building; however, parking space is very limited.
