The upcoming celebration of Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will give all Islanders a chance to celebrate the culture and contributions of the Acadian and Francophone community, says Premier Wade MacLauchlan, Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

“The Acadian and Francophone community has given an incredible amount to our province and continues to enrich our culture. This community is an important contributor to the diversity that we value so much in Prince Edward Island’s society,” said the Premier. “Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will provide an opportunity to celebrate the importance of the French language in Prince Edward Island and the cultural vitality of Francophone Islanders.”

This year’s Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will take place March 6 to 22, with events in communities across the province marking the French language and Acadian culture on Prince Edward Island.

Starting March 6, the Acadian flag will be flown at Province House for the duration of the celebrations.

The official opening ceremony will be held at Government House in Charlottetown, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. Later the same day, a singer-songwriter circle will be held in Summerside at the Centre Belle-Alliance, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This opening activity will be a tribute to the late Acadian performer Angèle Arsenault.

Information on Rendez-vous de la Francophonie activities is available at www.rvf.ca.
