Tourism and Culture

The second in a series of free public lectures commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Samuel Holland’s survey of Prince Edward Island will be held Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at the Eptek Art and Culture Centre on Water Street in Summerside.

Part one of this two part lecture is entitled The Journey of Samuel Holland’s Astronomical Clock. Researcher and historian George Dalton will discuss the significance of Holland’s astronomical clock and how it was essential to the accuracy of his survey of British North America.

Part two of the lecture is entitled Samuel Holland Legacy: Maps of the Summerside area. Archivist Fred Horne from the MacNaught History Centre and Archives will look at the cadastral map and atlas resources available to the public as they dig into the past.

Everyone is invited to attend this free lecture being presented by the Samuel Holland 250 Commemoration Committee.
