The provincial French celebrations (Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie) invite us to explore the different aspects of the Francophonie and to enhance our understanding of Francophone cultures, says Premier Wade MacLauchlan, Minister Responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

“By participating in the celebrations, Islanders can immerse themselves in an environment that embraces diversity, marked by the contribution of Francophones, Acadians and Francophiles,” declared the Premier. “Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie help to promote dialogue between cultures and convey the vitality of our Acadian and Francophone community.”

For the 18th edition, Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will be taking place March 3 to 23, 2016. Islanders of all ages will be able to participate in a myriad of events taking place in several Island communities.

The activities organized by Francophones and Francophiles to promote the French language and its diverse cultural expressions include community gatherings, multicultural get-togethers, ceremonies, performances, song, film screenings, contests, and educational activities.

The official opening ceremony of Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will be held at Government House in Charlottetown, on Thursday, March 3 at 10:30 a.m. Starting that same day, the Acadian flag will be flown at Province House for the duration of the celebrations.
