ART BANK ACQUISITIONS ANNOUNCED

Community and Cultural Affairs

Six new works have been added to the Provincial Art Bank as a result of the newly-developed Acquisitions Program. Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Elmer MacFadyen announced the selection of the works in a news release today. “I am very pleased that we have been able to acquire more works of the Island’s outstanding artists,” he said. “This program allows us to assist visual artists in a very concrete way and makes their work available for viewing by the public.”

The works purchased are Ocean Haul, an acrylic by Andrew Henderson; Dyptique Serie Bateau en Asie - Les femmes au travail, a work of photographic tirage Argentique by Dominique Cruchet; Years Passing/Years Beginning, an oil by Brenda Whiteway; Rm. No. 728, an oil by Brian Burke; City Streets, Charlottetown, a watercolour by Julia Purcell; and a work of mixed media, Landscape on the Backside by Nigel Roe.

Minister MacFadyen noted that the works would be on display in early July on the second level of the Confederation Court Mall, near the food court. “This public location will provide an opportunity for Islanders and visitors alike to view the newest acquisitions to the Provincial Art Bank collection,” he said.

Information about the pieces and the artists is available at the display location. When the display is moved from the Confederation Court Mall, it will become part of a collection of artwork on display in Provincial Government buildings to which the public has access. These locations include Access PEI sites, boardrooms, minister’s offices and public areas. The Art Bank program has been in place for almost twenty-five years and during that period an extensive collection of work by approximately 75 Island artists has been assembled.
