Le Centre Goéland Gets Funding for Revitalization Plans

Development and Technology

Le Centre Goéland, located in Cape Egmont, will undertake a series of planned improvements, thanks to an investment of more than $1 million made by Canada’s New Government and the Province of Prince Edward Island.

Once revitalization plans are complete, Le Centre Goéland will be a safe, tranquil, sustainable, eco-friendly retreat facility that will serve a wide range of clientele from across Canada and around the world. The Centre will be able to lodge up to 50 people at a time.

“Canada’s New Government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of Prince Edward Island,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of ACOA. “This investment will allow le Centre Goéland to respond to the changing needs of its diverse clientele and expanding cultural tourism market.”

"Projects like this help Island communities grow and prosper which is why the province was pleased to support local efforts through the Community Development Fund," said Premier Pat Binns. "This project will allow for new opportunities to be developed in the growing cultural and eco-tourism markets."

“We are extremely pleased to see this long-awaited project get underway since we have great plans and expectations for the new two-storey Centre,” noted Aubrey Cormier, chair of the Management Committee. “In the past few years, this bilingual Centre was mainly being rented out to various groups to hold camps, retreats and other events. Now we’re looking at attracting many other clients as well as organizing our own programming.”

Le Centre Goéland will continue to focus on relaxed, nature and ecologically-inspired experiences. Emphasis will be placed on wellness and spiritual retreat markets including corporate, community and public organizations seeking out natural and meditative environments for annual retreats or planning sessions.

“We are committed to ensuring the long-term viability of our new Centre,” said board chair Cyrus Gallant. “We want to ensure that it will be here for generations to come so that countless numbers of people can continue to benefit from the peaceful, personal development atmosphere it provides.”

Service Canada is providing funding though the Canada/Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement to assist with labour and materials.
