Anyone can enter the contest by simply dropping off their edible interpretation of a book or literary inspiration to either the Summerside or Charlottetown locations. Pre-registration is not necessary. Three categories for judging will include children, adults and professionals.

Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Elmer MacFadyen is encouraging Islanders to participate in this fun event. “What a great opportunity to see first hand the true enjoyment reading can bring!” he said. “It’s a time to let your imagination run free.”

Food-based entries can represent the title of a book, a character, a recipe found in the story, or other “bookish” items. Entries can be dropped off at either library between 1 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2007. The judging will take place at 2 p.m. At the Confederation Centre Public Library in Charlottetown, the judging will be done by a Chef from the Culinary Institute of Canada. At the Rotary Public Library in Summerside, the public will vote for their favourite in each category.

“April Fools' Day is a perfect day to eat your words,” the Minister noted.

The Books 2 Eat Event is being presented through a partnership with the Confederation Centre Public Library and the Friends of the Confederation Centre Public Library, The Culinary Institute of Canada and Holland College.
