The Honourable Valerie Docherty, Minister of Tourism is pleased to announce the 2008 Prince Edward Island Visitor’s Guide is ready for distribution. To mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables, this year's cover boasts a scenic shot of Anne overlooking the beautiful countryside.

The 208-page, magazine-style guide is packaged to promote the brand positioning of the Gentle Island of Rejuvenation. The Guide has been a popular planning tool for many years among tourists and Islanders alike. With its warm colours and vibrant imagery, it provides a nice balance between visuals and tourism related information.

In addition to the 2008 Island Guide, the vacation package publication, Genuine Island Experiences, has been produced for a second year. This publication was a hit with visitors in its inaugural year and has been expanded to offer more options this time around. Tourism operators, along with Tourism PEI, have designed a variety of clever packages that incorporate accommodations, activities and specialized promotions.

“This is a great example of industry and government working together to produce high quality publications that promote our beautiful province from tip-to-tip,” said Minister Docherty. “The production of these publications involves a lengthy process that requires a lot of hard work from industry members, operators and staff. Their efforts are to be commended as we see the end result of a professional marketing piece that will capture the attention of our consumers from near and far.”

More than three hundred thousand copies of the Guide have been printed for the 2008 season and will be distributed through the Island’s Visitor Information and Destination Centres, as well as through the call centre. In addition, an Island Highway Map, letterhead and envelope have been printed to complete the PEI vacation planning kit.

The Prince Edward Island Guide is printed in both English and French. It can also be found on-line in both languages at www.gentleisland.com or www.douceurdelile.com. All the information to plan a great vacation in Prince Edward Island can be found inside the pages of these great publications.
