For the past three years, Saint-Aubin has celebrated “Acadian Week” during the month of August in honour of Acadian soldiers who helped liberate the town in June 1944. The program of activities of this week-long festival features shows by Acadian artists, photography exhibits, commemorative ceremonies, screening of documentaries, historical conferences and a tintamarre (noise parade).

“The province of PEI has been asked to be the guest of honour at the 2009 edition of Acadian Week in Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer,” said Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs, Carolyn Bertram. “While we explore the possibility of taking part in the event, we felt that, in this year of commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Deportation of Island Acadians, it was fitting to share some of our province’s Acadian history with the residents of Saint-Aubin.”

Included among the books are works by well-known Island historian Georges Arsenault and by Alice Richard that will provide insight on Acadian culture and heritage specific to PEI. The books will be housed at the municipal library in Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer and will enrich the library’s existing Acadian collection.
