The Department of Social Services and Seniors today provided one-time funding of $12,000 to the Bedford MacDonald Homeless Shelter for men in Charlottetown.

The Bedford MacDonald shelter provides shower facilities, supper, beds and breakfast for up to six men each evening. Staff members and volunteers refer clients to agencies for professional counseling services and arrange transportation when necessary.

“The staff of Bedford MacDonald shelter provide invaluable services to vulnerable men in Prince Edward Island. Our Government’s one-time donation will assist the shelter with its ongoing operating expenses to support staff members in continuing their tireless work,” said Doug Currie, the Minister of Social Services and Seniors.

The Bedford MacDonald Homeless Shelter was constructed in 2004 as part of the National Homelessness Initiative and relies on donations from businesses and the community to operate. The shelter was recently renovated and is now open to the public.
