The Learning Elders Arts Program (LEAP) is accepting applications until October 15, 2009. The program is managed by the PEI Senior Citizens Federation with funding assistance from the Department of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour; Minister Carolyn Bertram wants to encourage Island seniors to take part in this exciting program.

“LEAP provides a creative partnership between active seniors’ organizations and experienced local artists,” said Minister Bertram. “Last year, LEAP benefitted over four hundred Island seniors, with programs including watercolor painting, woodworking, pottery, theatre production and many others. I want to encourage our seniors’ groups to take advantage of this wonderful program.”

LEAP is a project-based initiative designed to provide Island seniors with the opportunity to learn various artistic disciplines from local artists. The program funding enables local seniors’ groups to hire professional and semi-professional artists to teach various artistic disciplines.

Groups interested in apply for LEAP must submit a completed application form to the PEI Senior Citizen’s Federation on or before October 15, 2009. For details about the application process, eligibility and adjudication process, please visit the PEI Senior Citizen’s Federation website at www.peiscf.com.
