Home and School Tool Kit translated for new Islanders

Innovation and Advanced Learning

Hundreds of new Islanders now have a ready road map of the Island’s education system, thanks to new translations of the PEI Home and School Federation’s Home and School Tool Kit, says Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allen Roach.

“At tomorrow’s annual meeting of the Home and School Federation, Islanders will have the chance to see the Home and School Tool Kit in Nepali, Simplified Chinese and Farsi,” said Minister Roach. “These translated guides will help newcomers understand the Island education system and how they can help their children succeed in Island schools.”

The new parent engagement guides are a translation of the popular Home and School Tool Kit developed by the PEI Home and School Federation. Translation was arranged by Immigration Services with financial support from Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s PEI Portal Agreement. The Took Kit is also available in French.

Owen Parkhouse, president of the PEI Home and School Federation said the tool kits will help new Islanders engage with their children’s schools.

“The PEI Home and School Federation is pleased to see the tool kit translated into these languages. Parents are so important in the education of their children. Now some of these new Canadians have the opportunity to know more about the education system and can become more engaged at home and at school. Education is a family journey,” he said.

Copies of the Home and School Tool Kit are available online at www.edu.pe.ca/peihsf.
