Islanders invited to offer their ideas for Budget 2013

Finance and Energy

One year into its three-year fiscal plan, Government is moving steadily toward budget targets, and is seeking feedback on whether it is striking the right balance between raising new revenue and spending restraint, says Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs Minister Wes Sheridan.

“We had some really good discussions at last year’s pre-budget consultations,” said Minister Sheridan. “We sat around the table, exchanging ideas about ways we could grow the economy and encourage job creation, while protecting important gains in healthcare and education. This year, I want to continue that conversation as we develop the budget for 2013. Are there services or programs to add? Are there ways to save? How would Islanders like to see us balance the budget?”

Anyone interested in attending can register by phoning (902) 620-3679 before Wednesday, January 30.

The consultation sessions will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. as follows:

• Friday, February 1, Summerside (storm date of February 14);

• Monday, February 4, O'Leary (storm date of February 21);

• Wednesday, February 6, Charlottetown (storm date of February 13); and

• Friday, February 8, Montague (storm date of February 15).

There will be simultaneous translation services at the Summerside session for those wanting to participate in French.

People can also provide feedback for the 2013/2014 Budget by responding to an online questionnaire at www.gov.pe.ca/budgetsubmissions. Written Submissions are also welcome, and can be submitted before 4 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 by email at budgetsubmissions@gov.pe.ca, or delivered or mailed to:
