The new English Language School Board trustees held their first public meeting last night to begin their work to improve student learning, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister, Alan McIsaac.

“We are pleased to see the new trustees settling into their roles and committed to working together to improve the Island’s school system,” said Minister McIsaac. “The trustees bring an incredible amount of experience and are dedicated to ensuring all Island students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

This was the first public meeting since the new trustees officially assumed their roles on January 1, 2013. There are currently more than 20,000 students and 2,300 teachers and support staff across Prince Edward Island. The board will conduct regular meetings and the locations will alternate between the school board offices in Summerside and Stratford.

“Beyond obligations demanded of the office, we will be held to the highest standards in our commitment to serve the needs of every student through their journey of learning,” said Board Chairperson Fred Osborne. “Last night, trustees of the English Language School Board demonstrated that they are prepared for this task. Individually, I am impressed by the commitment shown by each trustee and collectively I am confident in their abilities.”
