“This new modern school will provide students with the space and equipment they need to have a good start in their education,” said Premier Ghiz. “I would like to thank all staff, students and parents for their patience over the past two years. Ensuring our students have a safe and healthy learning environment is a top priority, which is why Government committed to replacing Spring Park quickly after water infiltration issues were identified in 2011.”
The new 66 thousand square-foot facility was officially opened today with all staff and students, along with dignitaries from the community as well as local and provincial government.
“This is a terrific day for staff and students at Spring Park Elementary School and we were pleased that they are settling into their new school,” Minister McIsaac. “This is a wonderful new learning space for these young students and it will help to foster a love of learning for students for years to come.”
Planning and design for the new $10 million school was completed by W.D. Lawrence Architecture, and Brighton Construction was the construction manager for the project. The new school features a learning centre, resource centre, literacy centre, health services room, project-based learning studio, multipurpose room, kitchen, teacher planning room, meeting and convention rooms. There are smartboards in all classrooms along with FM sound reinforcement systems to help students with hearing disabilities. The new school also features wireless capabilities throughout the building.
