The PEI Aquaculture Alliance is pleased to announce the kickoff of the 2nd Annual Prince Edward Island Oyster Society Restaurant Campaign during the month of August.

“Creating an oyster experience in Prince Edward Island restaurants and having customers tell their stories online is a fun, engaging way of getting people excited about Prince Edward Island oysters,” said Ann Worth, executive director of the Aquaculture Alliance. “Our organization is proud to help tell the story of our tasty, fresh oysters. Island restaurants recognize the value in creating a memorable, tableside experience for visitors and Islanders alike.”

More than 30 Island restaurants that serve succulent Prince Edward Island oysters will participate in the unique promotional campaign. Patrons who order a Prince Edward Island oyster will be invited to take the Honorary Islander Oath and log into social media to tell their oyster tale. Participants will be eligible to win exciting prizes including gift certificates from participating restaurants.

“We are very pleased to support the PEI Aquaculture Alliance with this creative marketing initiative,” said Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley. “The oyster fishery plays an important role in the Island economy and provides jobs in rural communities. This campaign is a great opportunity to promote our high-quality oysters in Prince Edward Island. This promotion will help increase demand for oysters and strengthen the industry.”

The Aquaculture Alliance first launched the initiative in 2012. The campaign engaged people from across North America, generated new customers for Island restaurants and elevated the awareness and consumption of Prince Edward Island oysters with visitors and Islanders alike.

PEI Oyster Society Restaurant Campaign signs are now posted in restaurants to identify participation. For a complete list of restaurants, visit the PEI Oyster Society website at www.peioystersociety.ca.

The PEI Aquaculture Alliance is a non-profit organization that exists to grow, support and promote the PEI cultured mussel, oyster and finfish industry. For more information on the organization, visit www.aquaculturepei.com.
