Students and staff are enjoying a new $1.3 million expansion to the music room and industrial arts facilities at Montague Intermediate School, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to be investing in modern, comfortable facilities for students,” said Premier Ghiz. “This expansion allows students to participate in important programming that will lead to a well-rounded education. I would like to thank the parents and staff involved in this project for their efforts and dedication to the students in the community.”

The 6,100 square-foot addition includes new space for woodworking, metals and visual arts as well as an instructor’s office, a small computer lab and an expansion of the multi-purpose room. The new band room includes four practice rooms, a music instructor’s office and a sound studio.

“Government is pleased to see students and staff settling in to the brand new addition at Montague Intermediate School,” said Alan McIsaac, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “Our number one priority continues to be improving student achievement while providing students across Prince Edward Island with facilities to meet their programming needs.”

“Today is another important step that will help our youth prepare for future opportunities in post-secondary education and in the workforce,” said Allen Roach, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning and MLA for the Montague-Kilmuir area. “I am pleased to see continued growth in the community of Montague. This investment will allow intermediate school students to participate in a top-notch music program and also to explore potential career opportunities in a modern industrial arts facility.”

Construction on the Montague Intermediate School addition began in the spring, and students began classes in their new space in September 2013.
