A recent article posted on the popular travel website vacay.ca shows the planned 2014 celebrations are helping to make the Island the Canadian destination of choice for travelers this year, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“It is truly exciting to see Charlottetown named as the number one destination for travelers in 2014 by this popular and reputable website,” said Mr. Henderson. “Many people are working together very hard to organize and promote a fitting celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference, and it’s fantastic to see that hard work beginning to be recognized by travel influencers like vacay.ca.”

The article specifically references the planned celebrations and highlights the 2014 Celebration Zone which will be located on the Charlottetown waterfront. It will act as the epicenter for the festivities.

There will also be concerts, public art displays, theatre productions, historical re-enactments and dozens of other events and activities which were kicked off this week during the New Year’s Eve celebrations on Great George Street.

The article goes on to say, “It (Charlottetown) will be the most festive spot in the country – and one of the most festive in North America – and for that reason Charlottetown has topped the list of the Vacay.ca 20 Best Places to Travel in Canada in 2014.”

In 2013 vacay.ca named Basin Head Beach the best beach in Canada. That same year, it named Fortress Louisbourg in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia the No. 1 destination, and it saw a 37 per cent increase in visitation from its 2012 levels.
