New tourism video generating plenty of interest

Tourism and Culture

The popularity of a new tourism promotional video for 2014 is a strong sign of growing interest in Prince Edward Island as a destination of choice this year and of the solid marketing behind this year’s campaign, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“The video has just topped 300,000 views on YouTube with no signs of slowing down,” says Minister Henderson. “I think that speaks volumes about the level of interest in Prince Edward Island as a premiere tourism destination and the momentum building toward this summer and the planned 2014 celebrations. It’s an exciting, light-hearted and entertaining video that does a great job highlighting everything we have to offer potential visitors in 2014 and beyond. It is also a very important part of this year’s integrated marketing campaign.”

The video premiered to very positive reviews at the launch of the 2014 integrated tourism marketing campaign in late November. At that time, two contests were announced – one from PEI 2014 Inc. and one from Tourism PEI. The first is for Islanders who help encourage friends and family to visit the Island in 2014. Residents who share the video with three people get a chance to win a grand prize of $2,014 as well as weekly prizes. The other contest offers a chance to win a trip to the Island, although watching the video is not a requirement of that contest.

The video not only talks about the celebrations planned for the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference, but it also highlights much of what makes Prince Edward Island a premiere tourism destination including delicious food, golf, beaches, culture and, of course, Anne.

“Islanders are our best and most important ambassadors as we begin to roll out all the events and activities planned for this year,” said Minister Henderson. “We encourage everyone to continue to share the video and to encourage friends and family to make Prince Edward Island their destination of choice in 2014.”
