Residents of Eastern Kings will benefit from a provincial investment to improve recreational facilities in their region, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley.

“Through the Island Community Fund we are working in partnership with communities to improve the sustainability of local facilities which are a vital part of rural Prince Edward Island,” said Minister MacKinley. “The Eastern Kings Sportsplex is the main recreational facility for many Eastern Kings residents, and we are pleased to invest in improvements to ensure it continues to meet their needs.”

An Island Community Fund contribution of $45,000 will help fund the installation of new rink boards and new kitchen equipment required to comply with provincial health and safety regulations. The Eastern Kings Sportsplex is contributing $113,000 towards the improvements. The total cost of the project is $158,000.

“This funding reflects the commitment of the provincial government to meet the needs of Island communities,” said the minister. “I would like to recognize the board members and all the community volunteers who are working hard to ensure their facilities are well maintained for the enjoyment of residents.”

The Island Community Fund is focused on addressing infrastructure needs in communities across the province.
