“AKA is a leading innovative company and, along with its CEO Jason Aspin, it has made great contributions to the Island economy,” said Minister Roach. “With this decision to relocate, AKA will bring a number of highly skilled jobs to Montague.” The move is expected to create 25 new jobs in Prince Edward Island.

AKA, a uniquely positioned organization, currently has operations in Stratford and Pooles Corner in PEI, as well as facilities in Dartmouth, NS; Owen Sound, ON; Houston, TX, and Singapore. The planned transition – into the building formerly occupied by the federal government’s addictions research centre – will provide a great location for the company’s renewed head office.

“Our company is extremely excited about this move. In addition to making this the home for our senior management team, we will also be basing our Innovation group as well as some of our training functions out of this facility. We intend to continue to grow our company and advance the product and services that we provide to the marine and off-shore industries from this base. We want to build on the rich maritime history this area has and, through our work and in collaboration with other companies, put Eastern PEI on the map as a centre of excellence worldwide for marine and offshore technologies and science,” said Jason Aspin.

Minister Roach said the new jobs and new location would be welcome additions to Montague.

“This building is one of Montague’s most recognizable facilities, and it will soon house one of Montague’s most advanced businesses. Jason Aspin and AKA will create excellent job and career opportunities in Montague – which will generate a positive and beneficial effect for the whole community,” said Minister Roach.

Innovation PEI is supporting this transition with a labour rebate that will provide up to $372,000 to support the creation of up to 25 new positions within this growing company. Finance PEI has purchased the former addictions research building in Montague and will rent space within it to AKA.
