Minister thanks Prince Edward Island police for role in Moncton response

Environment, Labour and Justice

A public vote of thanks is due to Island police officers who risked their lives in the efforts to apprehend the suspect in the Moncton shootings, says Minister of Environment, Labour and Justice and Attorney General Janice Sherry.

“It is particularly during events of this tragic nature that we are reminded of the bravery and selflessness of those in uniform who risk their own safety to protect that of the public,” said Minister Sherry. ”We are extremely relieved that this very dangerous situation is over, and on behalf of all Islanders I thank the officers who contributed to restoring peace and security in the City of Moncton.”

Members of the “L” Division of the RCMP, along with officers from the Charlottetown and Summerside police services, participated in the multi-province effort.

The Minister said she joins with other Canadians in extending condolences to the families, friends and fellow officers of the RCMP members who were fatally shot or wounded.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families in the difficult days ahead for them,” said Minister Sherry.
