Twelve Island students who were chosen to create videos for their 2014 Heritage Fair projects are now competing for a national prize as part of the Young Citizens video contest, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“Each of these students deserves recognition for all the hard work and imagination they put into their projects and into the videos,” said Minister Henderson. “They did a great job and I’m confident they will do the Island proud at the national finals of the Young Citizens video contest. I encourage all Islanders to go online and vote for your favourite Island entry.”

Young Citizens is an initiative of Canada’s History, the national coordinator of the heritage fairs program. More than 150 videos from all over the country are entered in the contest. The top six will be selected to travel to Ottawa in the fall for a special screening during the National History Forum, as part of the Governor General’s History Awards. Voting accounts for 50 percent of the selection marks. A panel will choose the finalists based on a number of additional factors.

Island entries for the Young Citizens video contest were selected from the 25 finalists at the 2014 Provincial Heritage Fair. The selected projects cover a wide range of topics and a wide geographic area. They are as follows:
