2014 Love our Lobster campaign biggest yet

Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development

The support for Prince Edward Island’s lobster industry is clear from the success of the 2014 Love our Lobster campaign, says Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Ron MacKinley.

“This year, we saw more participation from retailers and a significant increase in interest from Islanders and visitors,” said Minister MacKinley. “The lobster industry is an important contributor to the province providing jobs in our rural communities and helping expand the provincial economy. It is great to see such support for our Island fishers and the industry.”

The 2014 Love our Lobster campaign wrapped up June 30 and included the participation of 26 Island retailers. This year, there was a 47 per cent increase in ballots received over last year. This year’s grand prize winner was Ross Waddell who will receive a private lobster dinner party for ten catered by Chef Curtis Ellis.

The goal of the Love our Lobster campaign is to increase awareness and demand for Island lobster.

“Prince Edward Island lobster is a delicious and nutritious option to enjoy,” said Minister MacKinley. “I encourage all Islanders and visitors to continue to choose Island lobster and support our Island fishers who will soon be harvesting fresh lobster for our fall season.”
