Members of the Japanese traditional dance ensemble ACT.JT and their renowned leader Mr. Manzo Nomura will present the traditional Japanese performing arts known as Daidengaku and Kyogen during an upcoming visit to the province says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“The province is tremendously honoured to host Mr. Nomura and the members of ACT.JT, and we look forward to enjoying the public performances they have planned during their visit to Prince Edward Island,” said Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson. “Mr. Nomura and his family are cultural icons in Japan, and the performances they will deliver have been passed down over countless generations. They make a tremendous addition to the 2014 celebrations.”

Kyogen is a Japanese traditional entertainment comedy, which was recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Daidengaku is a traditional dance with a 1000-year history.

Mr. Manzo Nomura was born as the ninth head of the Nomura Family of Kyogen. He is designated as an important intangible cultural asset of Japan. His father, Mr. Man Nomura was bestowed the title of “Living National Treasure” in Japan.

Mr. Nomura and members of ACT.JT will hold two public performances during their time on the Island. The first will be held at the Celebration Zone on the Charlottetown waterfront on Sunday August 10 at 2 p.m. Several Island dancers will join ACT.JT on stage for that performance. The second will be at the PEI Preserve Company in New Glasgow on Monday, August 11 at 1:30 p.m.
