Carta Worldwide to open payment processing centre on PEI

Carta Worldwide, a leader in payment processing, will set up a data site at the Atlantic Technology Centre with assistance from Innovation PEI, says Allen Roach, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning.
“Carta Worldwide has a global network helping businesses process payment and carry out financial transactions electronically,” said Allen Roach, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. “This shows the success our province has had in attracting businesses with a global outlook.”
Carta Worldwide currently offers payment programs to customers in the UK, Europe, Caribbean and the United Arab Emirates.
The Charlottetown office of Carta Worldwide is expected to employ up to 17 people by summer 2016. The positions, which include IT support, graphic design and management jobs, are intended to help Carta Worldwide expand its presence in the North American marketplace.
The Canadian office will also serve as a backup to Carta Worldwide’s current data processing centre in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Innovation PEI, Prince Edward Island’s leading economic development agency, is supporting the new office with a $10,000 grant for equipment and labour subsidies that would reach roughly $300,000 if the company reaches its hiring projections.
Brian Semkiw, CEO of Carta Worldwide commented, “We are encountering many programs, especially in the public sector, that require transaction processing and data storage to be resident in Canada. This new centre will be the first payment processing data centre of its kind in Canada, available to all Financial Institutions and program managers who select Carta’s next generation transaction processing systems.”
Carta plans to build a strong presence in the community. Carta also plans to foster a strong relationship with the University of PEI’s Computer Science and Information Technology groups and graduates – providing employment and co-op opportunities to some of the brightest minds PEI and Canada have to offer.
