Fall lobster promotion with Red Shores a huge success

Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development

The Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development has once again partnered with Red Shores Race Track to promote the Island’s fall lobster season, says Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Ron MacKinley.

“The Island lobster industry is an important contributor to the province providing jobs in our rural communities and helping expand the provincial economy,” said Minister MacKinley. “Our department is pleased to have partnered with Red Shores Race Track to promote our Island fishery and the world-class product caught off our shores.”

For the third year, the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development sponsored Prince Edward Island Seafood Night at the Races where thousands of visitors sampled Island lobster and other seafood products like mussels, oysters and halibut. Guests of Red Shores Top of the Park Restaurant who made reservations during Surf N Turf buffet nights received a ballot to win lobster and other shellfish prizes.

Minister MacKinley congratulates the 2014 prize winners Debra Hopper, Charles Matthews and Joey Matheson.

“Increased exposure to high-quality fresh Island lobster helps build demand,” said Minister MacKinley. “Our department will continue to look at creative ways to market Island lobster and other seafood products and increase demand around the world.”
