COWS Creamery enters Chinese market with opening of Beijing store

“Any Islander or visitor to Prince Edward Island can tell you that COWS is much more than an ice cream shop – it strongly represents with the Island brand and I am confident COWS will continue to attract a lot of fans now that it has opened a store here in China too,” said Premier Ghiz.
“In the past five years, trade between Prince Edward Island and China has increased by approximately 225 per cent. The Chinese market is an important one to Prince Edward Island exporters and buyers.”
COWS held its Grand Opening at 10 a.m. October 31 on Gongti North Road in Chaoyang District in Beijing. This is the first COWS Creamery Store in the Greater China Region and will be its flagship store in the area. With business space of close to 5,000 square feet and designed by a local Chinese designer, the store will be a combination of COWS cool culture and modern interior designs, featuring various elements of COWS images and designs.
All of the ice cream to be sold at COWS Creamery in Beijing will be made in Prince Edward Island and shipped to China for sale.
Charlottetown-based Sunrise Group is working with COWS Creamery to open the company’s first store in China.
“The presence of COWS Creamery in Beijing is a sign of the warm relationship that China and Canada share,” said Frank Zhou, president and CEO of the Sunrise Group. “We hope that the opening of the COWS Creamery store in Beijing will further build on that relationship and encourage ties between the people of China and Prince Edward Island.”
The Grand Opening was attended by over 150 guests, with guests including Premier Ghiz, Canadian Ambassador to China Guy Saint-Jacques, former Chinese Ambassador to Canada Lan Lijun, and COWS Inc. CEO Jackie McIntyre.
“For more than 20 years, COWS Creamery has used the finest ingredients, traditional recipes and a fun atmosphere to become PEI’s signature chain of ice cream stores. We’re confident that our delicious Island-made ice cream and our friendly approach will be the recipe for success in China,” said Ms. McIntyre.
Premier Ghiz said he is confident the people of Beijing will enjoy the chance to come to COWS for a taste of Prince Edward Island.
“The COWS opening is a great example of how we can work together – and I know COWS Creamery and its famous ice cream will be a welcome addition, one that children and adults alike will enjoy here in Beijing.”
