“Through the Island Community Fund, the Province of Prince Edward Island is pleased to have provided almost $50,000 to three projects in the St. Louis and Tignish areas to enhance the quality of life of local residents,” said Minister MacKinley. “By partnering with local community groups, we are able to upgrade community infrastructure to ensure it is available now and into the future.”
The Province of Prince Edward Island, through the Island Community Fund, partnered with three community organizations to fund the projects.
• The Municipality of St. Louis received $19,000 to renovate the community hall to enhance the quality of meeting spaces.
• The Palmer Road Knights of Columbus Club Inc. received $18,084 to purchase and install wheelchair accessible playground equipment for St. Louis Elementary School.
• The Municipality of Tignish received $12,765 to purchase and install playground equipment at the Tignish Bicentennial Park.
The total value of the three projects is approximately $149,000.
“The funding provided by the Provincial Government has allowed the Municipality of St. Louis to increase and improve the space in the Community Centre,” said Juanita Gaudet, Counsellor. “This is an important hall that hosts great events for the residents of St. Louis and surrounding area.”
“These investments help support recreation opportunities and strengthen community spirit. This in turn helps build stronger communities,” said Minister MacKinley. “The Province of Prince Edward Island will continue to focus on investments that enhance our Island communities from tip to tip.”
Since 2009, the Island Community Fund has invested nearly $20 million to support more than 400 projects across the province, with a total project value of $67 million.
