Premier Robert Ghiz announces resignation

Premier's Office

Premier Robert Ghiz has announced his intention to resign as premier.

“I am proud of our government’s accomplishments in the objectives I set out when first taking office: building a stronger education system, improving access to health care and helping more young Islanders attend university or college,” said the premier. “While there is more work to be done, Prince Edward Island is in a very good position. Renewal is an important part of a healthy democracy and I know our team will continue to build on the progress achieved.”

The MLA for District 13, Charlottetown-Brighton, he became Leader of the Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island in 2003 and was elected Leader of the Opposition following the provincial general election of 2003. He was sworn in as Premier of Prince Edward Island in June, 2007.

“I was given the privilege of serving the people of Prince Edward Island as premier for nearly eight years and I want to thank them for giving me that honour,” said the premier.
