Island Community Fund investments in the Community of Crapaud will improve the services of the Crapaud Volunteer Fire Department and the safety of its members, says Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Ron MacKinley.

“Our volunteer fire fighters provide an essential service to their communities and contribute to the well-being and security of all Islanders,” said Minister MacKinley. “It is important that our fire departments have the proper tools they need to continue their great service and to attract more young volunteers to the service.”

The Community of Crapaud received $25,000 through the Island Community Fund to purchase 30 sets of complete structural firefighting gear.

Minister MacKinley made the announcement during an open house at the fire hall to celebrate its expansion. This expansion allows a bigger area for training and better accommodates the department’s fire trucks including a new water tanker truck. The Province of Prince Edward Island, through the Island Community Fund, helped support the expansion with an investment of $27,000.

To date, the Community of Crapaud has received $52,000 from the Island Community Fund to make upgrades to fire department. The total value of both projects is approximately $195,000.

"I am proud of the 28 active firefighters that serve in the Crapaud Volunteer Fire Department," states Raymond MacDonald, Fire Chief. "This new gear made possible by the Island Community Fund will protect our volunteers and help us serve the residents of Crapaud and the surrounding areas."

“The Island Community Fund helps support our volunteer fire departments through improved safety and services,” said Minister MacKinley. “The Province of Prince Edward Island will continue to support projects across Prince Edward Island that improve community infrastructure, maintain strong communities and create a better quality of life for all Islanders.”

Since 2009, the Island Community Fund has invested nearly $20 million to support more than 400 projects across the province, with a total project value of $67 million.
