Island Community Fund supports three Central Kings projects

Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development

Three community projects in Central Kings are receiving a combined investment of $74,000 through the Island Community Fund, says Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Ron MacKinley.

“Vibrant and sustainable communities require solid infrastructure,” said Minister MacKinley. “These projects will provide that infrastructure and enhance economic development while increasing public safety and supporting recreational opportunities for the residents of Central Kings.”

The Province of Prince Edward Island, through the Island Community Fund, partnered with three community organizations to fund the projects.

• The Town of Georgetown received $49,700 for upgrades to Three Rivers Sportsplex;

• The Central Kings Volunteer Fire Company received $15,120 to purchase new protective fire equipment; and

• The Provincial Plowing Match and Agricultural Fair Association Ltd. received $9,260 for a new administrative building.

The projects have a combined value of $167,000.

“The Town of Georgetown is very pleased that we are able to, once again, work with the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development. The funding received has aided in a huge way for the renovations that needed to be done to our Sportsplex this year,” said His Worship Lewis Lavandier, Mayor of Georgetown.

“Through the Island Community Fund, the Province of Prince Edward Island is pleased to partner with local community groups to help support the continued development of our rural communities,” said Minister MacKinley. “We will continue to support projects and programs that enhance the quality of life for all Islanders.”

Since 2009, the Island Community Fund has invested nearly $20 million to support more than 400 projects across the province, with a total project value of $67 million.
