A book written by a well known Island author will be distributed to every Grade one student on Prince Edward Island and across Canada as part of TD Bank Financial Group’s annual book giveaway, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson

“David Weale’s book Doors in the Air is a fantastic choice for this annual promotion,” said Minister Henderson. “The Public Library Service works very hard to promote reading and make it fun for the whole family. The annual TD Book Giveaway to Grade one students across the province provides a great opportunity for kids and parents to read together. I thank TD Bank and The Canadian Children’s Book Centre for partnering with the public library service and for choosing a great title by an Island author for this year’s promotion.”

Doors in the Air is illustrated by Pierre Pratt and published by Orca Book Publishers. It is available to students in both official languages.

Told through rhyming verse, Doors in the Air is the story of a boy who marvels at how doorways can take him from one place to another. When he passes through the doors of his imagination, which he refers to as “doors in the air,” he journeys to new and faraway lands, leaving behind boredom, fear and unpleasantness.

“The main goal of the Public Library Service is to instill a life-long love of books and reading,” said Minister Henderson. “By partnering with TD Bank we are giving children and their parents more opportunities to read together and make books fun for the whole family.”
