Scope and content
This subseries consists of several types of records of bonds and debenture issued by the government of Prince Edward Island. The first 3 volumes are bond books which contain a daily record of bonds issued, the name of the individual purchasing the bond, when the bond was due, and the amount. Volumes 4 to 8 are Bond ledgers in which each page documents the name of the individual purchasing the bonds (the books are not arranged alphabetically), the date the bond was issued, its due date, the amount of the bond, the amount of interest, the date, and the amount paid. Volume 9 contains two examples of bonds issued in 1891.
Volume 10 is divided into three sections: "Debentures paid also a/c Promissory Notes with Land Tax Receivers, DI"; "Interest paid on Debentures issued under Act 14, Vic. Cap. 20 - Paid at Treasury"; and "Account of notes of Hand for Seed Grain sent to the Deputy Receivers of Land Assessment for Collection". The latter section, spanning the years 1868-1869, is divided by County and then by district. The name of individual in charge of the district, the date, the number of notes given to the district, and the amount are recorded. Some of the communities are listed but there is no record of the seed being given.
The remaining volumes are files relating to Debenture Issue which contain correspondence primarily between the Provincial Treasurer's Office and Investment Houses in Canada and the United States, Executive Council minutes relating to debenture, examples of the Debenture Issues, and calls for tenders.
