Read, Lorne Hiram (1888-1953)

Biographical history

Lorne Hiram Read was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island on 13 September 1888, the son of Thomas Whittamore Read and Elvira Davidson. After attending school in Summerside he graduated from the College of Photography in Effingham, Illinois. In 1909 he opened a photographic studio on Water Street in Summerside which he operated for many years. In 1916 he married Delia Brown but the couple had no children. Read died on 6 April 1953.

Scope and content

The collection consists of three photographs of bridges in Prince County, Prince Edward Island, i.e. Hatchery Bridge over the Dunk River, Beaton's Bridge and the bridge over Little Pierre Jacques. At least two of the three images were taken by L. H. Read, Summerside photographer.
