Scope and content

This fonds consists of a brief history of the community of Bunbury, Prince Edward Island, from 1720 to 1994 including topics such as school, church, industry, transportation, groups and associations, military service, and local administration.

The village of Bunbury, Prince Edward Island, was incorporated in 1969. However the area had been occupied by native, Acadian and English settlers respectively for over two hundred years prior to that date. In 1882 it became a school district. In 1993 the communities of Bunbury, Southport, Cross Roads, Keppoch- Kinloch, and Battery Point amalgamated and in 1994 the amalgamated area was divided into three wards with the western half of bunbury becoming part of Kelly's Cove Ward and the eastern half within Tea Hill Ward.
