Historique

The brig "Fanny" was built in Charlottetown by John Pippy in 1845 for James Peake. She was 233 tons burthen, built of juniper, finished with copper, and carried two sets of sails. In 1849 the California gold fever seized Prince Edward Island and the California Association was formed. The forty members of the Association purchased the "Fanny " from Peake for 4000 Island currency and outfitted her for the voyage to California. She set sail on November 12, 1849 bound for San Francisco round Cape Horn. Shortly after arriving the Association was disbanded, the "Fanny" sold and each man left to make his own fortune. None did and most returned home to Prince Edward Island in due course.
