Biographical history

Gussie Purdy was born in Prince Edward Island in 1878 to Elijah F. Purdy and Emma B. Hobbs. She studied nursing at the Prince Edward Island Hospital School of Nursing (class of 1910) and worked as a nurse for many years. On 22 October 1913, Gussie married Ernest Robert Cameron of Hampton. The couple had two children, David P. (1915-1948) and May (b. 1917). Gussie Purdy Cameron died on 14 July 1960 and is buried in the Crapaud Peoples Cemetery with her husband and son.

The fonds consists of a nursing student notebook (ca. 1909-1910) belonging to Gussie Purdy Cameron who studied at the Prince Edward Island Hospital School of Nursing. The notebook contains handwritten notes on a variety of topics, such as anatomy and human physiology, childbirth, bandaging, treatment of burns and scalds, use of anaesthesia, and care of patients following surgery, as well as the name of the lecturer. Some additional nursing notes were added by an unknown individual in 1970.
