Scope and content
This collection consists of an indenture of apprenticeship, an agreement made between James Brawders, 19, with the consent of his mother Ellen Brawders, and John Newson, cabinet-maker of Charlottetown. Brawders agrees to place himself in apprenticeship to John Newson for four years to learn the art or trade of a cabinet-maker, and to abide by a specific code of behaviour. Newson agrees to teach Brawders his trade and to pay him 25 pounds per year. Ellen Brawders agrees to provide board, lodging, clothing and medical care for James during the time of his apprenticeship. Both parties are bound by a bond of 20 pounds.
