Administrative history

In 1804, the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island saw fit to make a reservation of 10 Town lots for the site of a "Public Seminary of Religion and Learning" to be known as Kent College. The land was deeded but Kent College never materialized. Kent College School, fronting on Kent Street, popularly known as the National School began in 1820 and was later used as a normal school and then a model school. The first large building fronting on Weymouth Street was the Central Academy built in 1834-35. It was replaced by Prince of Wales College in 1860.
