Custodial history

This material was originally part of Acc2630/3. The thesis was pulled to form a separate fonds on 12 July 2006.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Marlene Russell Clark's Master of Arts thesis entitled "The Franchise in Prince Edward Island and its Relation to Island Politics and Other Political Institutions". In her 232 page thesis, Clark touches on such topics as women's suffrage and the electoral process, and examines the issues surrounding the "old" and "new" franchise, including property and multiple voting, which she argues led to much corruption within Island politics. Clark cites a wide range of primary and secondary sources, including books, articles, government documents, statutes, newspapers, political pamphlets, and interviews.
