Biographical history
Prince Edward Island's oldest museum, The Garden of the Gulf, was established in Montague in 1958. It is housed in the former Montague Bridge Post Office and Customs House, an Island stone building dating back to 1888. Operated by a board of volunteers and staff, and supported by the Town of Montague, it is open to the public on a seasonal basis from June through September. The museum's collections and exhibits document and illustrate the history of Prince Edward Island, in particular the Three Rivers area of Kings County.
In the summer of 1986 the Garden of the Gulf Museum in Montague featured a summer exhibit "Memories of Montague". Interviews for the exhibit were conducted in April of 1986 by museum staff members Jean DeLory, Joanne Bieler, and Helen Gill. Those interviewed were long time residents of the Montague area.

Scope and content
This fonds consists of 8 audio cassette tapes on which are recorded interviews with longtime Montague area residents Jennie Gordon, Angus McGowan, Dr. Preston McIntyre, Doris Evelyn Mair, Martha B. (Matt) Poole, Fran and Cyrus Shaw, Hazel Stewart, and LeBert Taylor. Asked about their memories of the Montague area in the period 1915-1925, they responded with reminiscences on various subjects, including: local businesses; services and business practices; transportation; social activity; religion; and medical care.
The tapes are accompanied by consent and interview questionnaire forms which note the subject's name, date of birth, occupation and main activity, their parent's names and occupations, and in one case, the subject matter of the interview (in point form).
