Administrative history

On 22 September 1892 a meeting was held of the farmers of the Murray Harbour North area, Prince Edward Island, to consider the advisability of erecting a cheese factory. Following some canvassing of the residents of the area, the decision was made to proceed and the Murray Harbour Dairying Company was incorporated in 1893. The first president was James Clow and the vice-president, John Collings. The factory was built on land purchased from John Smith at Sturgeon and was in operation by the fall of 1893. The cheese maker was B. F. Dingman. In 1895 a central creamery was added and the factory began the production of butter as well as cheese. The Company operated into the mid-1930's.
